What to Expect on the Day of Microdermabrasion
On the day of your appointment, the procedure will take 45 mins to 1 hour total.
- The First step: The cleansing process to remove your skin from any excess impurities.
- The Second step: Exfoliation, which will warm up the skin to stimulate the lymphatic system.
- The Third step: “Raking” using the machine with the diamond tip wand to remove dry, dead skin cells. This step may be repeated a number of times depending on the density and texture of your skin.
- The Final step: Optional but highly recommended, a treatment mask to moisturize and seal your skin. This step allows time for the skin to relax and soak in the treatment, while also giving us the chance to ensure there are no adverse reactions to the microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion Recovery
The 24 hours after the microdermabrasion procedure is the best time to relax and give your skin time to heal and adjust to the treatment. We recommend staying out of the sun and avoiding applying any unnecessary skin products, so you can ensure your skin has time to soak up all the nourishing ingredients from the procedure.
It is also important to drink plenty of water for additional hydration, which can also aid in flushing out excess toxins in the skin. You will begin to feel a big difference in the softness of your skin within this recovery period, and you can resume normal activity within 24 hours. Some patients may feel some minor irritation or itchiness after microdermabrasion. This is completely normal and will subside within 24-48 hours.
It is very rare to experience extreme adverse reactions from microdermabrasion; however, if you do, call us right away and we can advise you on the best course of treatment.
